In a historic milestone for health in the western region of Guatemala, Dr. Mariza Chan inaugurated the first radiotherapy center equipped with a linear accelerator. This technological advance represents a new era in cancer treatment for thousands of Guatemalans.

Recent Project: New Radiation Therapy in Lincoln, NE offers RapidArc® Radiation Therapy
Radiology Oncology Consultants announced that it has installed a linear accelerator system for cancer treatment. This new radiation therapy machine allows some of the most advanced cancer treatment technology available today. Radiation therapy is used to treat over 50% of all cancer cases in the United States, and this new machine manufactured by Varian Medical Systems has “On-Board Imaging” and RapidArc®, two cutting-edge technologies that will allow Radiology Oncology Consultants to treat patients with unprecedented speed and accuracy.
“We are thrilled to have a machine capable of RapidArc® delivery available to treat our patients,” stated Dr. P.R. Hynes. “This treatment technology delivers the prescribed dose of radiation to patients faster than ever before. The result is a more powerful treatment of radiation with greater patient comfort. Some treatments can be done is as little as three minutes.”
The equipment was supplied by Radiology Oncology Systems, Inc. of California. The project took several months to plan and the 25,000 lb. machine itself took over a month to install. The machine rests under a large steel structure referred to as a base frame, under the floor of the room, to support its weight. The room is shielded for radiation andvarious underground conduits carry dozens of feet of cabling. “It’s quite an endeavor to install one of these machines” stated Erin Kruse, Facility Director, “and we are thrilled that our project was seamless.”
