RaySearch and Radiology Oncology Systems Partnership

RaySearch and ROS Partner to Expand Access to Radiation Therapy Through Refurbished Systems

Radiology Oncology Systems, Inc. (ROS) and RaySearch Laboratories have formed a strategic partnership to expand access to radiation therapy by combining refurbished linear accelerators with advanced treatment software developed by RaySearch. Several joint projects are already in progress across multiple countries.

The collaboration addresses a growing challenge: many fully functional linacs are decommissioned after 10 years of service, despite still being capable of delivering effective treatment. By extending the lifespan of these systems and pairing them with modern software from RaySearch, the partnership offers a pathway for more clinics to offer high-quality cancer care.

RaySearch: Global Software Leader in Radiation Oncology

Founded in Stockholm in 2000 and listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 2003, RaySearch Laboratories AB (publ) has become a global leader in radiation oncology software. Today, RaySearch’s software is used in over 1,100 clinics across 47 countries, providing advanced tools for treatment planning, clinical coordination, and data analytics.

“Access to care is critical for us to fulfill our vision of a world where cancer is conquered,” said Johan Löf, founder and CEO of RaySearch. “This partnership, with its combination of refurbished linacs and advanced software solutions, can really make a difference.”

RaySearch’s product line includes:

  • RayStation® – a powerful treatment planning system offering adaptive therapy, multi-criteria optimization, and compatibility with a wide range of treatment machines.
  • RayCare® – an oncology information system that integrates with RayStation to streamline clinical workflows and coordinate care.
  • RayIntelligence® – a data analytics platform for structuring and analyzing oncology data.
  • RayCommand® – a treatment control system connecting planning software with radiation delivery systems.

A Shared Commitment to Sustainability and Access

From ROS’s perspective, the partnership reflects a shared goal: to increase access to advanced radiation therapy by lowering the barriers to entry for clinics. By combining refurbished linacs with sophisticated planning and information software, the collaboration helps clinics adopt capabilities such as adaptive therapy, multimodality planning, and workflow automation. This can be done without requiring fully new infrastructure.

“Too many cancer patients around the world face a critical gap between their need for care and the advanced technology available,” said John V. Vano, President of ROS. “Our collaboration with RaySearch allows us to help our customers expand their access to critical, life-changing care.”

Project Spotlight: San Luis Obispo Multidisciplinary Center

One such collaboration involves a new multidisciplinary center in San Luis Obispo, California, where a state-of-the-art linear accelerator, acquired through ROS, has been paired with RayCare® and RayStation® to deliver advanced, patient-focused treatment. The center, developed through a partnership between AKSM/Oncology and Urology Associates of the Central Coast, is expected to open in 2026 as part of the Advanced Radiation Therapeutics (ART) network.

“We are pleased to partner with RaySearch to provide all oncology information and treatment planning systems for our new state-of-the-art Radiation Therapy Center currently under development in San Luis Obispo, CA,” said Scott Neal, President of AKSM/Oncology and Board Member at Advanced Radiation Therapeutics (ART). “RaySearch is at the forefront of innovation in this field, and we look forward to collaborating in our shared commitment to advancing patient care and improving outcomes for our patients.”

Building a More Sustainable Future

Beyond expanding access, the initiative supports sustainability in healthcare. Rather than prematurely retiring linacs, the partnership enables clinics to repurpose and redeploy these systems, extending their lifespan and reducing medical waste. ROS maintains ISO 13485 certification, ensuring that the pre-owned systems it delivers meet the quality standards for clinical use.

By combining refurbished equipment with proven oncology software, ROS and RaySearch aim to make effective, high-quality radiation therapy more accessible to providers and patients worldwide.
