In a historic milestone for health in the western region of Guatemala, Dr. Mariza Chan inaugurated the first radiotherapy center equipped with a linear accelerator. This technological advance represents a new era in cancer treatment for thousands of Guatemalans.
Stand Up to Cancer
We’re at an exciting moment in cancer research: New advances in precision medicine, immunotherapy, and epigenetics hold real promise to produce breakthroughs in research and treatment. However, these cutting-edge research avenues require substantial funding, and more support is needed to speed progress along. Because of this, we’re always happy to hear about fundraisers that raise money for this cause, and one of our favorite organizations, Stand Up to Cancer, is running one on August 21 at 8pm EST/PST and 7pm CST.
The live event will air on network TV (check your cable guide for the channel in your area), and it is hosted by Sofia Vergara, Anthony Anderson, Ken Jeong, and Tran Ho. A wide variety of performers, including Brittany Howard and Common, are participating.
Stand Up to Cancer funds collaborative research programs that unite research teams from across disciplines and institutions, including scientists as well as clinicians, patient advocates, and other cancer experts. 100% of your donations will go to the organization’s research program, which focuses on high-impact treatments that can be implemented quickly to transform patient outcomes. Since its creation, Stand Up to Cancer has funded 258 clinical trials and pledged over $603 million to research. We’re looking forward to supporting them and enjoying the show!
