The Most Beautiful Machine in the Hospital?
Pleasant Patient Experience
Over the past several years, patient experience has become an increasingly important measure of performance for clinics and hospitals. Whether a patient feels comfortable and relaxed during a visit can impact a hospital’s ranking and even its finances. Therefore, hospitals are investing more and more into making a treatment or imaging room feel more inviting and pleasing to the eye. Colors, lighting, and even music play a role in this experience. Moreover, a beautiful machine brings it all together.
A Beautiful Machine
Besides room design and amenities, the appearance of a medical device can also be important. For those of us in the industry who track medical equipment, we can see that devices continue to improve their styling and appearance. We have seen this with the CT, MRI, PET/CT, and linear accelerator. With every new model comes not only technical improvements but design and appeal enhancements as well.
Siemens Healthineers’ Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator
In the world of radiation oncology few machines are as beautiful to look at as the Siemens Healthineers’ Varian Truebeam machine. The TrueBeam is the newest dual-energy model from Varian for radiation treatment. It entered the market in 2010 and is Varian’s flagship linear accelerator. We recently photographed one of these beauties and thought it was a hands down winner. Here are some recent photos we took during our site inspection:
The Ultimate Driving Machine
An interesting fact about the TrueBeam concept origins is that Varian brought in the experts at BMW Group DesignWorks USA to design a less intimidating linear accelerator for its line of high-energy X-ray machines. The result was the Varian TrueBeam.
Along with the relatively recent launches of the Halcyon and Ethos, rumor has been circulating that Varian has been working on an even newer generation of technology. Will it be as eye-catching and beautiful as the TrueBeam?
Truly, mind-boggling technology used to save lives, can also be art.
More Visually Appealing Machines
ESTRO is also an exciting time to discover new technology and devices. ESTRO kicks off this month in Copenhagen, Denmark (May 6 – 10, 2022). Will there be any new eye-popping product launches? What designs will come to the forefront? If you see a beautiful machine, send us a photo or two. We would love to hear from you.
